I think we forget sometimes that the Prophet Muhammed was a revert as well! The Prophet Muhammed parents were not "Muslims" as we understand it to be today and The Prophet took his shahada and Bi'yiat at the age of 40, so weather if we born into the faith from Muslim(verb)parents or Muslim(non-participating) parents we should reflect on the Prophets life in every aspect that it has occured....

Alhumdillah, I am a convert to the deen of Islam. I converted while on deployment to Iraq, and am finishing out my time in the Army National Guard. The first time I went to the masjid when I got back home was for Fajr prayer. I expected all sorts of things, and to be honest, was a little worried. As lying is forbidden in Islam, my concern was what would my answer be, when I was asked what I do for a living. I am a soldier. I expected everything except what I recieved through the grace of Allah (SWT). The Imam asked me what I did after mistaking me for an australian. I told him that I was a soldier who converted while deployed to Iraq. He jokingly said " Well then where is your rifle?" Another brother there, who has become a great help to me, stated " It is right here" and pointed to his heart. From that moment on till now, I have been treated at my masjid with the greatest respect, much more than I feel I deserve. Each day I learn more. I have yet to run into anyone going off because I am a soldier or convert. Instead I have met many brothers, who I love as brothers for the sake of Allah (SWT). It is a shame that it is not always like this for all converts, but they can take hope and comfort in the fact that one cannot judge Islam by its adherents, Islam is perfect, we are not.
Wa Salaam
Brother Richard
The Imam of the Naqshbandi Order said, "طريقتنا الصحبة والخير في الجمعية - Tariqatuna as-suhbah wa 'l-khayru fi 'l- jam`iyyah" - “Our way is fellowship, and the goodness is in the gathering”.
Definition of Fellowship:
1. The companionship of individuals in a pleasant atmosphere.
2. A close association of friends sharing similar interests.
