The Song of the Sufis
There is a melody behind the curtain of life
That haunts those who died at the footsteps of love
Don't look for their souls in the wasteland of the night
They are lost to this world and are not coming back
Kissed on the chest by the spirit of God
They wander in the dark with these words on their lips:
Wa Ladayna Mazeed, Wa Ladayna Mazeed
We have much more to come, we have much more to come
In the mist of sadness, they cry with a smile
And wipe tears of sorrow with their rags and old scarves
Don't look at their forms as paupers and beggars
David stole their hearts with a note from his ney
And when he spoke in silence, they listened and obeyed
Dazzled in bewilderment by seven happy angels
They keep on dancing with these words on their lips:
Wa Ladayna Mazeed, Wa Ladayna Mazeed
We have much more to come, we have much more to come
There is a melody behind the curtain of age
That haunts those who drank from the fountain of youth
In the mist of sadness, they laugh and then cry
Wiping their blessed tears with an old scented scarf
Don't look at their forms as old men and bygones
Jesus shines in them like the red sun at dawn
And they worship at night in silence and in fear
Waiting for Gabriel to whisper in their ears.
As the melody fades in the mist of nihility
They keep on drifting with these words on their lips:
Wa Ladayna Mazeed, Haqq Ladayna Mazeed
And there is much more to come for all eternity.
