The 8th Shawwal is Eid ul Abrar ( Eid of the Pious) it's sunnah to fast the 6 days of Shawwal starting after the day of eid (2nd Shawwal) consecutively until the 7th Shawwal which is the last fast of the 6.

The six fasts of Shawwal are observed during the month of Shawwal - the month immediately after Ramadan.

It is mustahabb to keep these fasts wherein great rewards are earned. By adding the six days of fasting during Shawwal to the fasting of Ramadan it will earn a reward of a full year's fasting, Insha Allah. These fasts may be kept consecutively or at intervals during the month of Shawwal, i.e. spread out over the month.

Abu Ayyub (r) narrates that the Prophet (s) said, "Whoever fasted the full month of Ramadan and then follows it with the six fasts of Shawwal, is like a person who has fasted the full year." (Targheeb)

It had been the practice of the Prophet Muhammad , that he would not sleep in the night preceding the day of Eidal-Fitr/festival commemoration the end of Ramadan fast. This night has been named in a tradition as the 'Night of Reward'; Almighty bestows His rewards on those who have spent the month of Ramadan abiding by the dictates of Islamic law, and all their prayers and invocation in this night are accepted. Therefore, it is desirable to perform Nafl in this night. the Prophet said: 'Whoever stands up - in worship - in the nights preceding the two Eids expecting rewards from his Lord, his heart will not die when the other hearts will die.'

To benefit from this opportunity, one should perform as much worship in this night as one can, and should pray for all one's needs and desires.

Abu Hurairah may Allah be well pleased with him reported that the Prophet Muhammad said: 'On the last night of Ramadan, my nation is forgiven'. He was asked if that meant on Laylatul-Qadr and he said, 'No'. (This merit is for the last night, the merits of Laylatul-Qadr are quite apart.) 'The truth is that full wages are paid to the worker when the work is over and the work is completed in the last night. Hence, they are forgiven.'

Sayyidina Abu Ayyub Ansaari (R) says. "Sayyidina Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam always performed four rak'ahs (Sunnah of Dhuhr) after the time of za'waal. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah. You give much importance to these four rak'ahs (Sunnah of Dhuhr) after the zawaal of the sun?' Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam replied: 'The doors of the skies open from the zawaal of the sun till the zuhr salaah is performed. I desire that a good deed of mine reaches the skies at that time'. I asked: 'Is there a recital in every rak'ah?' He replied: 'Yes'. I enquired: 'Should salaam be made at the end of two rak'ahs?' Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam replied 'No' (Salaam should be made only at the end of four rak'ahs)".

(1) Performing Tahajjud Salaat, and

(2) Constancy in the use of the Miswaak."

"Abu Hurairah (R) narrates that Rasulullah (S) said: 'Was it not for my fear of imposing a difficulty on my Ummah I would have ordered that the Miswaak be used for every Salaat'."
