Takva: A Man's Fear of God?

Has anyone seen the new tron movie, I thought it had some spiritual messages in it, especially the original protagonist who resembled a Sufi master! I was only wondering if some might want to analyze a few of the movies messages to get a better understanding of it from a Sufi point of view. Thanks

Recently watched a movie called "The Last Airbender"

There are many references of the unseen spirit world. The elements of water, fire, earth, and air(wind) and the ability to control them.

What Dreams May Come (1998)

Robin Williams, Annabella Sciorra Dir:Vincent Ward

A great movie depicting the artists rendition of heaven, hell, love and soul mates brought through a tragic story demonstrating the ultimate divinity of love.

I won't ruin it for any of you but the movie demonstrates the authors depiction of heaven - what makes are heavens, heaven, what makes our hells, hell. What can make our heaven turn into a hell. Answers to questions of how our ultimate self absorption by way of pain can create our own perceptions and create our own hells. Also, the ability to not let go can cause other who cannot see, pain and how the ones who can 'really see' or rather awakened ones (as Imam Ghazzai describes) benefit the ones they love. To what extent can you, would you go for the ones you love? Would you travel across the earth, above the heavens .... would you go to the depths of hell?

Quran al-Karim has an ayat, (Surat al-Hashr: 19) that states that one of the faults of man is that we forget. This movie clearly demonstrates how we 'forget' and cannot even recognize the closest ones to us. And this is a punishment in itself.

But as Maulana has stated that 'Love' is the tajalli of this time. Is this enough? A shaykh once spoke to another shaykh saying 'no one is considered my student until he waits until all of humanity enters their place in heaven.' One of our Shuyukh responded that 'no one is considered one of mine until he goes into the fires of hell takes them out one by one by the hand, places them in their proper place in heaven, and then takes their place in hell.'

Maulana (qas) is the ultimate reflection of the Muhammadan Mercy (pbuh) of Allah (swt.) Through that Mercy are we willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the one that is 'from every soul We created its mate.'?

It is one of my favorite movies and is worth a watch. But it gives me a deeper respect for the institution that is half our faith and those true emotions that we can feel for one another. Greatest, though, is the depiction of a need for a Guide, even through the depths of hell, to complete our heavens and fulfill our journey. Salaams.

don't watch Cop Out, big disappointment. very very dirty jokes, even compared with other modern movies.
Bounty Hunter seems pretty good, watched about half of it.
Alice in Wonderland to me is better than the original, very powerful movie

Off the beaten track: You should see Second Skin, extremely powerful movie about gaming addiction.

I don't usually like horror movies, but 1408 has a nice message, that everything you do is being watched. Shutter Island is pretty disappointing, not really anything supernatural there. The Blind Side is pretty good, Sandra Bullock is good as usual. The Hurt Locker has a very powerful message which I didn't really get until the last second of the movie. I watched it twice. It's a biased view of the Iraq war, but that is to be expected. The Spy Next Door is Jackie Chan getting eaten by Hollywood--I don't know how they are capable of destroying Jackie Chan's fight sequences but... guess what... they did. If you want the old Jackie Chan, don't expect to get that from The Spy Next Door. Fun movie for kids though. Don't expect too much from Sherlock Holmes either

Book of Eli is a nice movie, very very Christian movie but not too preachy, nice twists at the end.
