الْأَخِلَّاءُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ إِلَّا الْمُتَّقِينَ

Az-Zukhruf;43

                       67

Friends on that day will be foes, one to another,- except the Righteous.

It is recorded in Ibn Hatim that Hazrat Ali Karam Allah Wajhia said that, two Mumin who are friends when one of them dies and Allah gives him the good news of paradise, he remembers his friend and says that Oh Allah! that particular person was my beloved friend who would order me to obey You and Your Prophet  sal lal la hu ali hi wasalam, command me to virtue and stop me from vice and would reassure me that one day we have to meet Allah. So O lord! keep him steadfast on the right path till You show him what You have shown me and be pleased with him as you are pleased with me. Allah replies leave with contentedness, what I have prepared for him if you would see it you would smile and would never be grieved. Then when the other friend dies and their souls meet they are asked to narrate their relationship. Both say that he was a good brother and a very pious companion and a very good friend.

Two non- believers ( Kafir) who are friends when one of them dies and is given the news of hell, he also recalls his friend and says Oh Allah! that particular person was my  friend he would teach me to disobey You and Your Prophet  sal lal la hu ali hi wasalam, lure me for vice and stop me from virtue and would assure me that  we have not to meet Allah. So do not show him the right path after my death so that he may also see what I have seen and be displeased with him as you are full of wrath for me. When the other friend dies and their souls come together they are asked to narrate each other’s qualities. Both say that you were a very bad brother and a very bad companion and the worst friend. An associate may not a friend. Boss is also not a friend. Friendship is a relation that is above worldly associations. It is a relationship that influences a persons belief and his relationship with Allah. As along as a Muslims association-ship with a non-muslim does not impede his religious practices it is fine but once it does so then the Muslim should say Salam and return to Allah and Rasool Allah Sal lal la ho a lai hi wa sa lam.

Shah Naqshband on Fellowship

The Imam of the Naqshbandi Order said, "طريقتنا الصحبة والخير في الجمعية - Tariqatuna as-suhbah wa 'l-khayru fi 'l- jam`iyyah" - “Our way is fellowship, and the goodness is in the gathering”.

Definition of Fellowship:

1. The companionship of individuals in a pleasant atmosphere.

2. A close association of friends sharing similar interests.
