The Dunya (the world) is an expert at staining the hearts of mankind with its black ink.
The more you run away from it, the more it seems to run after you until it pins you down and suffocates you. The Dunya is saying:
“Come! Come and seek refuge in me! I will give you a life nobody else can. I will shade you; protect you and make you the most majestic of rulers. Worship me and I will grant to you, all the treasures in the world! I am sufficient enough for you.”
But that very roof people run to seek refuge under is the very roof that was designed to collapse on you when you need it the most.
Sometimes the heart begins to feel heavy and a void begins to form; so we fill the void with all things affiliated to the Dunya, thinking it will settle our hearts.
In actual fact, the heart becomes shrivelled like a dried apricot.
Instead of widening the void with false pleasures, stitch it together by seeking the pleasure of our Lord, because there is no greater pleasure to the heart than the pleasure of our Lord.
We are given two options: to be fooled by Dunya or not to be fooled and it’s as simple as that! Simplicity is a beautiful thing but we like to make it complicated for ourselves.
If we make a conscious effort to remember that every worldly pleasure we receive is gifted to us from our Lord, then we will run to His shelter.
When observing Dunya, make it a habit to remember our Lord. From then onwards, everything you look at will remind you of Him and Dunya will no longer be able to charm you into its trap.
This blog post is a reminder to myself more than anyone Insha’ Allah!
