The Intoxication of Qasaa'id

Bismillah-Hirrahmaan-Nirrahim.

It's fascinating how listening to the recitation of Qasaa'id (poems), intoxicates the heart with love.

No modern day expression of words can match the potency of Qasaa'id.

Time has been a good teacher; it gives the chance to re-discover yourself. Qasaa'id has played one of the biggest roles in finding myself and channelling love for the Divine.

Each time I listened to a Qasidah, I could feel a tugging of the heart and the soul fighting the confinement of the body to fly up and away. What was this unexplainable feeling? Words didn't suffice. Then I stumbled upon an extract from the book of Faridu'd-Din 'Attar - In The Speech of Birds (Mantiqu't-Tair):

'The soul is hidden in the body and You hidden in the soul, O Hidden within the hidden, O life of the soul!' 'Although in the soul You're indeed the Hidden Treasure, You are manifest through the body and the soul too.'

In Black and white, there was the answer I had been searching for.
